DIY: Shadow Puppet Theatre
The science behind shadows
In this STEAM activity, we explore light and how the absence of light due to an object creates shadows - and we do this through art!
Here is a little tidbit of science for you: the shape of an object always determines the shape of its shadow, however, size and shape of the shadow can change depending on source, location and distance of light.
The lights position determines the length of a shadow. The distance and spread of the light rays determines the crispness of a shadow. Make sure to explore with different kinds of light behind the shadow box and see what happens to the shapes! Try using sunlight, flashlight and a table lamp and note the differences.
Make sure to upload your finished work to the Artebula App so you can keep track of your progress!
Don't forget parents, all this learning may come with piles of artwork! But the Artebula App was designed to solve that problem without guilt. You can download it for free from the Google Play Store and the App Store.
