DIY Dinosaur Fossil Dig
This activity is fantastic for fine motor skills, creativity, imagination and science! It all starts with fossil making from salt dough!
Recipe for Salt Dough
2 cups of all purpose flour
1 cup of table salt
1 cup of water
Mix the ingredients together until you have a lump-free dough. Then you form small balls with the dough. We used loose parts and items from nature to create our fossils, experimenting with different textures, shapes and sizes for fun!
Once your dinosaur fossils have been created, you can bake them in the oven 250 degrees F (120 degrees C) for up to 2 hours. The desired finished product will be dry and hard. Let them cool fully before painting. We used mixtures of blues, blacks and whites to get a variety of colours for our fossils.
Finally we layered our rocks amongst some stones from our garden, and topped it with some soil. At this point, the children used a paint brush to dig for fossils and place them next to the dinosaur they think that the fossil belongs to!
